The prices of artificial Christmas trees are higher than the prices of natural fir and pine trees, ranging from 50,000 to 80,000 drams. Natural twigs are sold for 2,000-5,000 drams depending on size and quality. The price of artificial Christmas trees crosses the 100,000 dram border.
The State Customs Fine Committee still doesn't have any data regarding the number of natural and artificial Christmas trees imported and the prices. However, buyers say they were imported from Germany.
Many citizens say the prices are high and they can't afford it even if they have a great desire.
"My children want a Christmas tree a lot, but we don't earn enough and will barely be able to put food on the table for the New Year," said Mrs. Anahit.
Citizens of Yerevan say the prices of Christmas trees, the toys, the Santa Claus toys and the rabbit, which is the symbol of the year, are expensive.
No matter how much citizens complain about the prices, there are already lines at the markets.
