"Don't let them destroy"
Statement by the "We are against the reopening of foreign language schools" civil initiative
"The "We are against the reopening of foreign language schools" civil initiative regrets to register that after numerous protests, demonstrations, discussions, explaining to deputies of the National Assembly in a language that they understand, accepting their arguments, as well as many articles and a large unprecedented conference with the participation of hundreds of intellectuals who expressed their views in those articles, the "qualified" majority of the National Assembly is preparing not only to vote on the proposal to introduce changes in the laws "On Language" and "On Public Education", but vote for them by a second reading as well.
We the members of the initiative, as well as numerous public, political, artistic and scientific figures who have joined our initiative and the 3,500 members registered on our Facebook page are making a last call to the deputies of the National Assembly. There is already a precedent when deputies behave as their conscience tells them to during a vote, despite a state order and the defective tradition accepted in Armenia.
All deputies who recently voted against the law "On Garbage Disposal" must realize that the Armenian language, the Armenian school and the independent statehood hinged on them are much more important values than any current social issue and if those ladies and gentlemen have found the strength inside to act by their conscience and against Armenia once, they are simply obliged to do it twice for the sake of our national heritage and a dignified future.
Don't let the outgoing disgraceful officials ultimately destroy our education with this step. They are leaving, but you still have a year until the elections during which we promise to remind you of the good-if you vote against this draft law-and the bad-if you suddenly decided to vote for it."
