Court sitting adjourned
Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts adjourned Monday hearing into the case of opposition activists Sargis Gevorgyan and David Kiramijyan as Gevorgyan's Advocate Stepan Voskanyan did not show up in the court.
The advocates were scheduled to make defense speeches on December 20.
At the previous court sitting, Prosecutor Harutyun Harutyunyan petitioned the court to sentence the defendants to three years' conditional sentence.
The next court sitting is scheduled for December 28.
Gevorgyan and Kiramijyan were attempting to stroll through Liberty Square on May 31, when police officers detained them, along with 15 others (including 3 journalists). They were taken under arrest amid opposition's attempts to "regain" Liberty Square - a site from which the opposition has been banned after the deadly events of March 1, 2008, which resulted in clashes with security forces, human deaths and destructions in downtown Yerevan.
Kiramijyan is accused under Article 258 of Armenia's Criminal Code (hooliganism), while Gevorgyan is charged under Article 316 (violence against a representative of the authorities).
