Karabakh issue will not be discussed in Armenia
"Heritage" MPs consider the failed vote on the draft law on Armenia's recognition of the NKR's independence as the beginning of a new process. "The fact remains that the National Assembly has 13 MPs who support the NKR's independence," "Heritage" MP Stepan Safaryan told "A1+" after the failed vote on the draft law on Armenia's recognition of the NKR's independence today.
Referring to HHK press speaker Eduard Sharmazanov's announcement according to which the NKR's independence can be recognized in half an hour, Safaryan said: "The problem is that both the NKR and the entire Armenian nation are constantly waiting for that half hour."
Safaryan says the majority of the National Assembly avoided taking responsibility once again. "The NKR's independence will not be discussed at the RA National Assembly. As the Armenian authorities have shown in the past and now, that issue will be discussed elsewhere. The Armenian authorities already voted against the NKR's independence by signing under the declaration on the NKR in Astana."
What made the Armenian authorities not participate in the vote on the draft law? In response, "Heritage" MP Armen Martirosyan said: "Since the authorities are very vulnerable when it comes to inter-political issues, they don't want to disturb their international partners so that they don't place objectives."
Armen Martirosyan and other "Heritage" MPs are certain that the NKR's independence will be recognized sooner or later.
Head of the HHK faction Galust Sahakyan says not participating in the vote on the draft law on the NKR's independence doesn't mean that the HHK is against the NKR's independence or is less patriotic.
OEK (Country of Law) MP Gagik Baghdasaryan, who didn't take part in the vote on the draft law, considers himself and his party a political party that strives for recognition of the NKR's independence.
On behalf of the BHK, Aram Safaryan told "A1+": "Not participating in the vote on the draft law is simply the confirmation of the coalition's joint declaration in which we said that we attach importance to the process of negotiations within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. We can address the recognition of the NKR's independence when Armenia sees the failure of negotiations within the framework of the Minsk Group or if Azerbaijan refuses to negotiate. As Serzh Sargsyan said, Armenia will recognize the NKR's independence, if it feels that Azerbaijan continues its aggression."
