Action against the Emo movement
Over a hundred youth dressed in police uniforms with caps held a march/action today organized by the youth wing of the Association of Veterans of Special Significance Battalions of the Militia against the Emo culture.
With signs reading "No to foreign degradation", "No to indifference", "No to the Emo suicide", the youth crossed the major streets of Yerevan and called on the people to join their action. They say the march is not only against the distorted ideology of the Emo culture, but all types of degradation.
Member of the youth wing's council Andranik Kirakosyan says though the recent facts are not being released, they are troubling.
"Our fight is against any degradation, be it organized by a gothic union or the Emos," says Kirakosyan, referring to the Emos' attempts to harm people.
"Generally speaking, we should realize that the "Emo culture" is not bad, but what we see in Armenia has nothing to do with that culture at all," said action participant Ditsuhi.
Passers-by had different perceptions of the march/action. Whereas most of them agreed with the youth's initiative, our survey showed that there are also people who find that youth are free in terms of their preferences. "We shouldn't consider that as foreign. Each person has the right to engage in this or that movement or not. First, they were against the hippies and now they are against the Emos. I don't think it is right," said Lilit.
As far as suicide attempts are concerned, Lilit says there have always been attempts and that shouldn't be linked to Emos.
