Academicians voice support for Nikol Pashinyan
Academicians and corresponding members of the RA National Academy of Sciences have issued a statement voicing support for the jailed editor of Haykakan Zhamanak daily Nikol Pashinyan.
"Recently, the public attention is focused on the jailed journalist and editor Nikol Pashinyan and the incidents in the Kosh penitentiary institution. We are deeply concerned about the reports that Nikol's life is endangered in prison. We condemn violence and restrictions on freedom of speech. It is disgraceful for Armenia to violate international norms and conventions and put a journalist in prison. Concerned with the country's reputation, we urge the country's leadership to consider the release of the jailed journalist and guarantee Nikol's safety before that," reads the statement.
