Protesters address letter to CoE
Scores of Armenian citizens today staged a protest outside the Office of Prosecutor General with posters, "Where are the perpetrators of the March 1 clashes?" "Keep your bloody hands off Nikol."
As usual, they gathered on the site to demand immediate release of political prisoners.
"We shall continue our protests until the last political prisoner is freed in Armenia," said human rights advocate Vardan Harutyunyan.
The protesters headed to the OSCE Yerevan Office to hand a letter prepared by the RA Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners and Persecuted.
"Armenian authorities failed to meet PACE recommendations regarding the release of political prisoners and reopening of A1+ TV Company. We demand the CoE, the Parliamentary Assembly and the Monitoring Committee to use all levers and make Armenia fulfill its commitments. We also urge international organizations to interfere in Nikol's case and ensure his safety in prison," reads the letter.
The Committee has held such protests on Fridays since 2008 after many Armenian citizens were arrested, following the riots over the disputed presidential elections.
