“Anyone can be in Nikol’s situation”
"Editor-in-chief of "Haykakan Zhamanak" daily Nikol Pashinyan's life is in danger and he should be immediately released," say the editors-in-chief of a number of Armenian presses, adding that the authorities aren't doing anything to ensure his security at the "Kosh" penitentiary.
The editors-in-chief held a press conference at the "Haykakan Zhamanak" editorial office today.
Let us remind that Nikol Pashinyan was attacked in his cell again on November 11.
Editor-in-chief of "Aravot" newspaper Aram Abrahamyan mentioned that the assaults against Nikol Pashinyan must be a call to stay alert.
"If a person is arrested and persecuted in prison for what he says and writes, this should be a signal for all of us. Defending political prisoners and Nikol Pashinyan has nothing to do with political views or personal sympathy or antipathy," said Abrahamyan, adding that he is amazed to see intellectuals who are scared and try to find justifications for their inactivity.
President of "A1+" Mesrop Movsesyan noted that "each of the editors can find themselves in prison for no reason, just like Nikol Pashinyan".
"We can find ourselves in prison for wanting to put our country on the right track. Nothing will change in our country until our "respectable" authorities don't understand that," said Movsesyan.
Editor-in-chief of "168 Zham" newspaper Satik Seyranyan said it was strange to see that not all presses have united around this issue and is amazed at the government's stance.
Editor-in-chief of "Chorort Ishkhanutyun" Shogher Matevosyan warned the authorities that they shouldn't make Nikol's imprisonment become a nightmare for them. Armine Ohanyan from "Hraparak" newspaper said she feels humiliated and has no dignity living in a country where people can be sentenced for their political views. "I don't see the difference between Nikol and me."
Editor of "Armenia Today" online newspaper Argishti Kiviryan said he was disappointed in the fact that foreign media are staying silent.
The editors assured that their actions in defense of Nikol Pashinyan would continue.
