Demanding inspections at river basin
The Ministry of Nature Protection didn't dare to rate the damage of the eco-system of Lake Sevan caused by "Zangezur Eximp" Company through illegal construction of a small hydro-electric station on the Gayladzor stream of Argitch River.
The Ministry of Nature Protection has responded to the address of the roundtable participants at the Aarhaus Center in Gavar, but:
"The Ministry has not responded to the facts that
-the basin of Argitch River has been broken
-the waters of the underground sources don't fill into the river, but the trench that was built
-there is no water supply to Lake Sevan because Argitch River is one of the major water strata
-the water balance of the mountainous landshafts the maintenance of which is considered as a program for ecological security has been broken. There is a national coordinator and is one of the priorities," as stated by "Ecolur" which has addressed the Ministry of Nature Protection on behalf of the participants of the roundtable.
In the Ministry's letter it is stated: "As far as the damage caused to the animal kingdom is concerned, it is impossible to estimate it since there is no revelation of decline of fish."
Environmentalists continue to demand that the state environmental inspectorate of the RA Ministry of Nature Protection inspect and release the results of activities of the company at the Argitch River basin.
