"This is not the first time political prisoners are subjected to violence in Armenia," Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) Levon Zurabyan told a press conference November 12.

"By assaulting Haykakan Zhamanak daily detained Editor Nikol Pashinyan the authorities aim to silence the newspaper. But I want to warn them that their efforts will fail as the opposition is doing everything possible to control the situation," said Zurabyan adding that the opposition urges conduction of an independent expertise.
Further, he spoke about the Municipality's decisions to ban HAK rallies at Liberty Square.

By law, in response to a request the Mayor's Office should offer another day or time for organizing events, but at the same place, what has never been done, noted Zurabyan.

Before the press conference, Zurabyan gave journalists copies of an opposition letter suggesting the Municipality to inform about all mass events to be organized at Liberty Square in advance. HAK has submited a notice to the Mayor's Office with a proposal to inform the opposition about the days that will not cause any inconvenience to hold public events, like demonstrations, rallies and marches.

Asked whether the HAK would refuse its mandates if it formed a parliamentary minority in the next elections, Zurabyan said they would keep their mandates even in the worst scenario.
