Does Azerbaijan take lessons from Armenia?
Azerbaijan takes a crafty step ahead of the parliamentary elections in the country by announcing that it is ready to discuss a roadmap with Armenia which will ensure stability and security in the South Caucasus," head of Heritage parliamentary group Stepan Safaryan said November 5.
He thinks that the upcoming meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Astana will not produce tangible results. Stepan Safaryan is convinced that the presidential elections in Azerbaijan will not meet international standards and will be held with gross violations.
"Azerbaijan simply wants to lull OSCE and CoE and extort positive assessments from them. This is another attempt by Azerbaijan to legitimate illegal power - a method used by Armenia for a long time."
The Heritage MP does not think that the Humanitarian declaration signed between Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Astrakhan is dangerous for Armenia.
"Armenia is involved in the conflict. This is a fact that cannot be denied. But in Astrakhan Armenian authorities were not entitled or mandated to sign a document for Karabakh. It turns out that Armenia settles all issues for Artsakh," said Mr. Safaryan.
The Heritage MP does not share the opinion that the Heritage bill on the recognition of NKR independence should not be put to the vote in the Armenian Assembly.
"Recognition of Artsakh is the most effective and rational way to get out of this situation. Surely, it will change the laws of the game and increase pressure on Armenia. For its turn, Armenia must pressurize Azerbaijan and international community to change the format," said Mr. Safaryan adding that "Armenia must hurry to legalize its civil wedding with NKR."
