Special group set up to deal with conflicts
Muslim and Christian leaders gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, on November 1-4, to participate in the international consultation "Transforming Communities: Christians and Muslims Building a Common Future".
The consultation convened by the World Council of Churches (WCC) decided to set up "rapid deployment teams" to try to defuse tensions when their faiths are invoked by conflicting parties in flashpoints
The event brought together representatives from 65 countries who issued a joint statement.
"Frequently, conflicts are linked to religion even if the reasons are different, for example pressure, torture, injustice, unfair distribution of resources," reads the statement.
Archbishops Vigen Aykazyan and Sepuh Sargsyan also participated in the consultation.
