The 65th sitting of the UN General Assembly and the activites of the main committees are in progress.

According to the MFA's press service, there have been three discussions on the "people's right to self-determination" with speeches by delegates and representatives of international organizations from nearly 40 countries. This goes to reaffirm the modernity and importance of this important principle of international law.

Armenia's UN Permanent Representative, Ambassador Karen Nazaryan also participated in the discussions and mentioned that the violation fo that right leads to tragic results such as war and destruction. The Armenian people of Artsakh have fought for their right to freedom by resisting a war that was imposed on them and all attempts to eliminate them from the land of their ancestors. By exercising the right to self-determination of nations, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh have made the choice to be sovereign and have used all legal instruments for that.

He also attached importance to the UN's role and the fulfillment of the permanent and unreserved right of nations to self-determination.

Armenia's representative said it was ridiculous that Azerbaijan was speaking on the topic and making attempts to ignore the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination at the same time.

Nazaryan added: "Azerbaijan has always lacked the mechanisms for the protection of human and fundamental rights. They have been replaced by whimsical and illegal acts. The international communitywitnessed the massacres, tortures and murders of Armenians in Azerbaijani cities due to xenophobia and intolerance that shocked the world with their brutality. This was Azerbaijan's response to Nagorno-Karabakh when the latter exercised its right to self-determination. The current state in the region is the result of the Azerbaijani authorities' ethnic cleansing, massive killings, the military agression and the war against the people of Nagorno-Karabakh."
