Will US elections promote Genocide recognition?
"Midterm elections in the USA are a mighty impulse for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide," says Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) Director Richard Giragosian.
Talking to A1+, Mr. Giragosian pointed out two important reasons: firstly, most of the Congressional candidates who backed the Armenian Cause prevailed in yesterday's hard-fought mid-term elections, which means they will continue to raise the issue of genocide recognition. Secondly, the Congress will use the Genocide issue against Turkey.
Among the key winners are House Armenian Caucus Co-Chairs Frank Pallone and Mark Kirk, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, US Congress Republican Senator Adam Schiff, and Senator Barbara Boxer.
According to the Hay Dat (Armenian Cause) Office, over 90% of the Congressional candidates backed by the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) won in yesterday's vote.
