Edward Nalbandyan’s commentary
Today the presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan discussed the details of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement in Astrakhan. First, they reaffirmed the provisions stated in the declaration approved on 2008 November 2 in Meindorf. Secondly, they stressed the need for additional steps to reinforce the atmosphere of mutual confidence in the military sphere and the ceasefire regime for the settlement of the conflict through diplomacy. Finally, the sides agreed to exchange prisoners of war and return the bodies and to guide by this agreement in the future.
The presidents also assigned the foreign ministers to continue the negotiations and try to come to terms on the basic principles for the conflict settlement before the OSCE summit to be held in Astana in early December.
This was the seventh meeting initiated by Medvedev and in his presence in the past two years. Like previous meetings, I think this meeting was useful and important as well.
