PACE Co-Rapporteur on Armenia John Prescott was able to come to Armenia in 9 hours, but Mevlut Cavusoglu wasn't able to come to Yerevan to take part in the Forum for the "Future of Democracy" at all.

In his speech, John Prescott stated that the PACE Chairman wasn't able to participate in the forum due to technical difficulties.

"The CE is the only multi-member structure with the purpose of consolidating the potential of democracy and ensuring the development of democratic institutions," said John Prescott and recalled that the first stage of consolidating Europe took place after WWII.

"Today we must reconsider and strengthen democracy in every country," said Prescott.

Prescott mentioned that the most important standard of democracy is taking people's voices into account.

John Prescott also spoke about challenges facing democracy, including racism, intolerance, climate change and social inequality. "We must change the quality of life and respect nature," said Prescott.

Greeting the guests was RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan. He assured the attendees that Armenia is continuing to fulfill its obligations, but didn't address the current situation in Armenia.

The Foreign Minister informed that the ideas of freedom and democracy can help overcome the atmosphere of lack of confidence. He also mentioned that soon it will be 10 years since Armenia's CE membership and that Armenia is doing everything possible to become a full-fledged member of the European family. "Armenia continues to fulfill its obligations on the road toward building a society based on democracy, rule of law, as well as human rights and fundamental liberties. We appreciate the support from our friends and partners in making a smooth and effective transition. It is easier to overcome the potential obstacles when there is support," said Armenia's Foreign Minister.

After his speech, Edward Nalbandyan left without answering journalists' questions.
