Armenia has seen growth of venereal diseases in recent years, with the number of infected people amounting to 10.000 in the last five years. The number of infections has also increased in the reporting period.

"We try to prevent the spread of genital infections. Besides treating our patients, we are also engaged in disease prevention," venereologist Gurgen Pursughyan told A+.

"We arrange meetings in schools and public organizations to inform people about venereal diseases and their consequences. We also meet the partners of our patients during the treatment. We simply try to explain the importance of treatment," he added.

More and more patients, including teenagers, turn to doctors nowadays.

"Today the attitude to venereal diseases has changed. If earlier infected people were locked and isolated, today everyone is free to choose his doctor and receive treatment," the venereologist said.
