No trust in the government
Director of "Politeconomia" Research Institute Andranik Tevanyan doesn't treat the government's 2011-2013 interim action plan seriously.
"The current government has shown that its programs and predictions are not real. The only thing that I can treat seriously is their wish to collect as much money as possible for the budget through terror, but they are already doing that through a different plan," the economist told "A1+", adding that this is troubling because it is destroying small and medium businesses.
He considers the National Assembly's changes in the law on "Accise Tax" as a contributing factor and, according to him, this causes a blow to local producers and consumers because there will be inflation.
The fact that the "Accise Tax" draft law was adopted under pressure of the International Monetary Fund doesn't correspond to reality that much, according to Tevanyan. "The government has interests in cigarette and alcohol sales and is trying to shape more high-centered markets and remove businesses that are not too acceptable for them," says the economist.
According to Tevanyan, the government that was formed after 2008 has one working style and that is to collect as much money as possible for the budget. Since it has no public control over that money, it is incomprehensible what it wants to do with that money.
"The reason for this can be found in the economic system which the government doesn't want to change. The current government wants to create an oligarchic economy in Armenia and is concealing the statements to solve social issues, but that doesn't correspond to reality."
Andranik Tevanyan still hopes that government intervention in the economy will be as little as possible because the less intervention, the more businesses will be able to take advantage of opportunities.
