“Maragha, April 10, 1992” presented in Yerevan
Maragha, April 10, 1992. Ordinary Genocide" documentary was presented in Yerevan. The film tells about the massacre of Armenians committed by Azerbaijanis in Maragha village of Martakert region.
"Maragha seems to be out of the limelight," said Ara Saghatelyan, head of the public relations and information center of the Armenian President's Administration.
"The events in the film shed light on the causes and consequences of the Maragha massacre and evidence that the mass killings of Armenian children, women and elderly people were directly linked to the oil interests of Baku," he continued.
The film has been translated into Russian, French, and Arabic and is already available on the Internet.
"We are hopeful that this film will not only tell the truth but will also help the talks on Karabakh conflict resolution," Ordinary Genocide project director Marina Grigoryan said.
The film, which is the third in the "Common Genocide" series, is an attempt to present the real chronicle of the events that took place 18 years ago. The two previous films presented the massacres of Baku and Sumgayit.
The team is presently working on the fourth film entitled "Khojalu."
On April 10, 1992, Azerbaijani police officers set Maragha village to fire and exterminated its population. The number of Armenians killed in Maragha reached 100, including 30 women; 40 were wounded and 63 taken captives.
