Luzhkov was dismissed
President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev issued a decree on terminating the powers of Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov ahead of time and has appointed Deputy Mayor of Moscow Vladimir Resnin in that post, as reported by the Kremlin's press service.
Let us remind that there had been rumors about Yuri Luzhkov's dismissal for a long time. Luzhkov, who was mayor of Moscow for 18 years, was not appealing and was rest assured that he wouldn't be removed from his post.
Luzhkov was informed about Dmitry Medvedev's decree after coming to work this morning.
