ANC is not losing faith
Statement by the Armenian National Congress:
"Nineteen years ago, Armenia was declared an independent state after the Armenian nation unanimously said "Yes" to independence through a pan-national referendum.
The nation that has lost and gained its independence several times throughout the centuries realized its centuries-old dream for the future generations. The declaration of independence turned into a reality thanks to the unprecedented massive, persistent democratic movement which became of international significance as it spread toward the entire Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. With the heaviest burden of an earthquake, deportees, a blockade and the war, the newly independent Armenia managed to overcome the challenges that seemed invincible. The liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the creation of security guarantees, the radical economic and systematic transformations and the radicalization of democracy were also possible due to the faith and confidence of Armenia's authorities. The country that was recognized as a "democracy isle" in the region became a full-fledged member of the international community and a reliable partner in international affairs. Armenia became one of the countries of the post-Soviet territory that most brilliantly stood the test of independence.
The Armenian National Congress extends warm congratulations to the entire Armenian nation on its most glorious holiday. We are certain that the same efforts of the nation and the opposition will very soon steer Armenia away from the devious and destructive path through which the bandit regime has been dragging the nation for the past decade by wasting and turning the value of independence, the faith and confidence of the people, as well as the country's political and material resources into personal interest. We are going to live in a free, independent Armenia. We are going to live with dignity and inherit that life to our future generations. That is not only our inviolable right, but our inevitable duty to history and the future as well."
