Most difficult and most pleasant things for RA President
"We are waiting for a political force or leaders to appear in Turkey who would be willing to show political will," Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan said in an interview to Ukrainian Magazine.
He noted that the initiative of establishing relations with Turkey was one of the most difficult steps in his life.
I thought it wrong to assume the posture of the offended and aggrieved party, and wait until Turks themselves acknowledge the genocide, and resume the relations only afterwards. My approach was perceived ambiguously among our society, especially among Armenians living outside the country. This is understandable: our people are emotional. But I am glad that at last our people understood this idea," Serzh Sargsyan said.
Regarding the Karabakh conflict, the Armenian president said, "Even though until recently someone used to say that the right of peoples to self-determination is contrary to another fundamental right - territorial integrity, the famous decision of The Hague Court on the non-contradiction of the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo to the international law, put everything into its place. That is why at the ministerial summit of the OSCE in Almaty this year it was made clear that the three principles on which we negotiate /the non-use of force or the threat of force, territorial integrity and right of peoples to self-determination/ are equal"
Speaking about the agreement on extension of Russian military base deployment in Gyumri, Serzh Sargsyan said he had signed the document with great pleasure.
