Municipality decision did not surprise opposition
The Yerevan Municipality has refused to sanction a rally of the Armenian National Congress to be held at Liberty Square on September 24. The city hall suggested holding the rally near the Matenadaran as preparatory works for the celebration of Erebuni-Yerevan are underway at the square.
Congress representative Tigran Arakelyan says the city hall has violated the Law on conducting meetings, assemblies, rallies and demonstrations and has no right to offer another venue for the meeting. Besides, the city hall failed to notify the public of another event to be held at the square on Sept. 24.
Tigran Arakelyan has submitted two other notifications with the city hall on the opposition's rallies to be held at the square on Sept. 28-29.
