“To not be afraid of oligarchs”
The Venice Commission has informed the ARF and "Heritage" parties that it has received the package of proposals for the Electoral Legislation.
This time the OSCE has placed the issue of changing the RA Electoral Code.
The government sent its reforms without taking into account the views of NA opposition powers, while the ARF and "Heritage" sent their packages separately.
"We have presented different proposals, but the most basic issue is how the elections are held. The names of the people who participated in the election must become transparent. Elections are primarily falsified by making violations in the list of participants, including double votes, dead people, carousels and more," ARF MP Artyusha Shahbazyan told "A1+" today.
Vice-Chairman of "Heritage" Party Ruben Hakobyan says the most general flaw is the formation of Electoral Commissions.
Mr. Hakobyan is also certain that reforms in the Electoral Code are not enough to hold free, fair and transparent elections in Armenia. "As long as Armenians haven't realized that they are the owners of this country and as long as they haven't realized that their votes mean the future of their children that can't be solved for 5,000 drams, that they should not be afraid of oligarchs who can take them and steal their votes, there cannot be free and fair elections in Armenia," said Hakobyan.
Ruben Hakobyan hopes that during the visit of the experts from Venice, the representatives of the opposition will present the current issues in Armenia's electoral system.
The experts of the CE Venice Commission will arrive in Armenia on September 14.
