Rafik Petrosyan: "Aliyev is an utter fool”
Republican MP Rafik Petrosyan labels the draft resolution on the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan to be discussed in the UN agenda as ridiculous policy of "a stupid strapper."
"This is how a tall man with calf's obstinacy is called in Azerbaijan. Now I call Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev a "fool" as he hoisted a 40-meter flag in Baku which was torn to pieces by a strong wind on the same day," Rafik Petrosyan told a press conference at the Hayeli (Mirror) Club today.
The MP is convinced that the UN Security Council resolution will not passed the resolution and advised ignoring the document.
His opponent, Heritage party MP Larisa Alaverdian urged Mr. Petrosyan to sober up and speak about this serious document without humor.
"Let's laugh and go ahead. Is this the policy of the ruling party? Does Armenia take UN resolutions this way? The authorities prove in their statements on Public TV H1 and newspaper "Republic of Armenia" that they do not see the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in Armenia's territory, thus confirming the view of Azerbaijan," Larisa Alaverdian said.
"Today, we do not have a foreign ministry, we have an agency regulating foreign affairs. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not have its own strategy and is headed by Serge Sargsyan," she added.
The Heritage parliamentarian reminded that in 1993 the UN Security Council adopted several resolutions on the withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan which were all binding.
"Today no country treats us as its partner in the UNO," she said.
Regarding the recent Armenian-Russian agreement on the extension of Russian military base deployment term in Armenia, Rafik Petrosyan said he saw no danger for Armenia.
"All regional countries sign agreements - Georgia with America, Azerbaijan with Turkey and Armenia with Russia. I think that it is normal," he said.
Larisa Alaverdyan thinks that Armenia has not put forward any initiative in Armenian-Russian relations since the country proclaimed independence in 1991.
Russia is a powerful country and does everything possible to become even stronger. In this context, Russia does not depend on Armenia," she said.
