"There has to be a new National Academy of Sciences," said founder of the Center for Biodiversity at the Ministry of Education and Science, Sinerik Hayrapetyan during a press conference today.

Hayrapetyan is convinced that there has to be a new academy because the academicians and correspondents don't give reports abroad and the academy has turned into a feeding trough for everyone.

According to Hayrapetyan, Yerevan State University is in 4,826th place among 10,000 universities around the world. Baku, Iran, Lebanon are ahead of Armenia, while Georgia is alongside Armenia and that is troubling in terms of quality of education.

Hayrapetyan believes that though RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan has created and heads a scientific-technical council with ministers as members of the council, there are no scientists and that is simply ridiculous.

Chairman of the NA Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Artak Davtyan is not too pessimistic. According to him, the number 4,826 is an average indicator and very normal for a country that declared its independence 20 years ago.

In response to the "A1+"'s question on the draft law on making changes in the law on "Television and Radio", the Chairman of the NA Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Youth Affairs said that "the draft law has already been adopted, but each deputy and the government can undertake a legislative initiative to propose certain changes and additions."
