Representative of ARF Dashnaktsutyun supreme body Armen Rustamyan thinks Armenia should form a tandem with Artsakh equivalent to the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem.

"Armenia should enter into a military-political alliance with Karabakh and stand surety for Karabakh's security. This is a serious step and is as important as the recognition of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. Today, Armenia is taking awkward steps and making statements for domestic use while the world is waiting for definite and concrete measures," the ARFD member told news conference on August 31.

Armen Rustamyan is concerned over the pending adoption of Azerbaijan's resolution on Karabakh in the UN General Assembly.

To counterbalance Azerbaijan's attempts to launch a process parallel to the format of the OSCE Minsk Group, Armenia should initiate a campaign for the international recognition of Artsakh.

Rustamyan believes that Armenia and Karabakh are obliged to go ahead without any concessions in national interests.

Does it mean that ARFD is against ceding lands in the Karabakh issue? In reply to A1+, Mr. Rustamyan said, "The Karabakh people articulated their position in 1991 with the adoption of declaration of sovereignty and in 2006 with the adoption of NKR Constitution."

Rustamyan drew parallels with the Karabakh conflict and Armenian Genocide saying they both need international recognition.

As to the extension of terms of the Russian military base deployment in Armenia, he noted that ARFD supports agreements aimed to strengthen Armenia's security.
Armenia's military security depends on the Russian Federation by 80%., he said.

ARFD will vote for the Armenian-Russian Protocol though Rustamyan promised to share his opinion after getting familiarized with the contents.

ARFD will hold a rally in Dinamo Stadium on September 2 to present its stance on the Karabakh conflict. The meeting will be dedicated to the NKR independence Day.
