Kapan Council of Elders appeals to RA authorities
Kapan's Council of Elders adopted a message against the controversial uranium project in its special sitting on June 2. The Council has addressed letters to RA President Serzh Sargsyan, National Assembly and Government.
"Taking into account public protest over geological prospecting and uranium mine development, and its possible grave consequences for the environment and human beings, we join the appeals of local NGOs and urge you to stop further prospecting of the mine to avoid unpredicted environmental or ecological consequences, radioactive decay, air and water pollution which will force residents of southern regions to take the path of emigration," the letter reads.
Public hearings on the uranium project will be held in Kapan Municipality at 13:00 on July 2.
The discussion will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia, Syunik Marz authorities, NGOs and communities.
