“If you are insolent ,you are more honoured”
On June 23, RA Parliament continued discussing the draft amendments to the RA Laws on Language.
"But for the investors who promised to ensure high-quality education in Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan would not feel the need of educational amendments," Heritage MP Anahit Bakhshyan said.
Head of ARF-Dashnaktsutyun faction Vahan Hovhannisyan said knowledge is not valued in Armenia.
"Your knowledge does not secure a dignified place for you in the society. But if you have money and a pistol in your pocket you are honoured. Insolence makes your neck thicker, increases your rating and enlarges your criminal circles," he said.
And here a question is raised: does the society need the education their children are going to receive in "elite" schools?
Mr. Hovhannisyan thinks the amendments should be made to the Law on Education leaving the Law on Language unaltered.
The Prosperous Armenia Party and Rule of Law (Orinats Yerkir) are for the draft bill provided that education in high schools is realized in foreign languages.
Head of the Republican faction Galust Sahakyan said the bill still has a long way to pass.
In his closing remarks Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan said the Ministry had taken into considerations the suggestions of coalition parties and decided to open 11 foreign-language schools instead of former 15.
