Armenian famous artist Varuzhan Vardanian died suddenly at the age of 62.

Though Vardanian was unable to visit a workshop because of an illness, he continued painting at home.

Vardanian was ill and was unable to visit the studio for some time. However, he did not give up and continued painting at home. After his recovery, the painter created new works with new colour solutions.

"A person clarifies after passing through ordeals. The same happened to me. After the illness I started to paint in bright colours," Varuzhan Vardanian told journalists a few months ago.

Vardanian's last exhibition "Crucifixion" opened at the Contemporary Arts Centre in 2001.

The painter wanted to open another exhibition on his 60th anniversary but he did not manage.

Varuzhan Vardanian is the author of two books. He was a serious revolutionary.

"Unlike others, my coups are silent and always remain on the canvas," he said.

"I am fond of life but the idea of suicide always accompanies me like a shadow. Ernest Hemingway and Marilyn Monroe were born under my sign of the Zodiac (Cancer) and they both committed suicide. Another brilliant example is Modigliani who died of tubercular meningitis after spending a winter night on a bench...," said the painter.

Varuzhan Vardanian gave no importance to ranks and orders.

"I highly appreciate the opinion of my colleagues. I rank among the few painters who are considered to be great artists...I do not complain of my fate. I am well known in Moscow, Los Angeles, America... I am not a lost painter... "
