Ombudsman urges to act within law
Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan has issued a statement in connection with the recent incidents at Yerevan's Liberty Square.
In the result of a confrontation between Armenian National Congress (HAK) activists and riot police, a few HAK members were taken to the Kentron district police department.
Representatives of Ombudsman's quick response group met both police and HAK representatives in the police department who provided incompatible information on the incident. The Human Rights Defender calls on RA citizens to abstain from actions disturbing public order and to respect others' rights, freedoms and dignity.
The Ombudsman also urges law enforcers to act within the law while fulfilling their duties and avoid putting undue restriction" on freedom of assemblies.
