“The menace is still hanging over Armenia”
Former Armenian Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutyunyan says the recent internal political developments are resulted by the tragic events of March 1, 2008.
"The political crisis formed in the country after the elections of 2008 has not been surmounted to date. In fact, the Special Investigation Service and the parliamentary interim commission looking into the deadly clashes of March 1-2 failed to disclose the ten murders, thus further deepening the gap between the authorities and public," Mr. Harutyunyan told A1+.
The former defense minister says the Armenian-Turkish Protocols are among the major problems threatening our country. The menace will hang over Armenia unless the country withdraws its signature from the document.
As an illustration, Mr. Harutyunyan cited Turkish recent reports on the withdrawal of NKR Defense troops from Kelbajar and Lachin.
"It does not matter how many territories you are ceding -one, two or seven. Before the upcoming parliamentary election Turkey strives to make an impression of a constructive country and it seems to be succeeding in its efforts. Turkey's diplomacy regarding the Karabakh issue will work unless Armenia withdraws its signature," says Vagharshak Harutyunyan.
Former NKR Foreign Minister Arman Melikyan links all problems to the country's government system.
"We cannot expect any change in the country's home and foreign policy, unless the government's bases are changed," said Mr. Melikyan.
