Ministers in Brussels
Armenia's Foreign Affairs Minister Edward Nalbandyan, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and representatives of 28 NATO-member countries took part in the North-Atlantic Council's session in the format of 28+1 at the NATO central station in Brussels on May 12.
Armenia's Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense gave speeches during the session.
Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan touched upon different spheres of cooperation between Armenia and NATO, the primary issues of Armenia's foreign policy, the process of normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations and the opportunities for a settlement of the Karabakh conflict, as well as issues related to establishment of security and stability in the region. In his speech, Armenia's Defense Minister presented the process of and perspectives for reforms in the defense system and the sphere of security.
Speaking during the North-Atlantic Council's session were NATO's Secretary General, as well as 14 representatives of member countries. They praised the results of the Individual Partnership Action Plan, the process of reforms being implemented in Armenia and Armenia's participation in peacekeeping actions in Kosovo and Afghanistan.
Ministers Nalbandyan and Ohanyan responded to numerous questions related to Armenia's foreign policy, developments in the region and reforms in different spheres in Armenia.
On behalf of their countries, the ambassadors of NATO-member countries expressed support to Armenia's steps taken to establish peace, stability and security in the South Caucasus.
Before the North-Atlantic Council's session, Armenia's Foreign Affairs Minister Edward Nalbandyan and Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan met with NATO's Deputy Secretary General Claudio Bisogniero. During the meeting, the parties discussed the Partnership for Peace plan and the Armenia-NATO partnership within the framework of the Individual Partnership Action Plan.
Ministers Nalbandyan and Ohanyan reassured Armenia's willingness to continue the mutually beneficial cooperation with NATO.
The Deputy Secretary General of the North-Atlantic Alliance expressed high appreciation of the progress registered in a number of spheres during the cooperation with Armenia. Claudio Bisogniero also expressed gratitude to Armenia for its effective participation in peacekeeping actions in Afghanistan.
