"No commotion in Congress"

Politics

"Don't read Soviet papers. They cause serious damage to the health. Those who don't read them are in an excellent state of health," the lines from Bulgakov were the response by Armenian National Congress coordinator Levon Zurabyan to "A1+"'s question.

One of Armenia's pro-government newspapers has released information according to which "the highlighted decline of public interest in the ANC is due to the process of swamping within the party and that is felt within the ANC. That is why the Armenian National Movement, "Democratic Homeland" and Conservative parties propose to hold ANC elections and elect new leaders. With that said, the processes of removing Levon Ter-Petrosyan from the political game are sweeping."

ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan considered this information as nonsensical and said there was no need for commentary.

"It's a lie from start to finish," chairman of "Democratic Homeland" party Petros Makeyan told "A1+". "Our party is not involved in such intrigues and I think the ANC is not in such a state. How can I comment on something that doesn't exist?"

Chairman of the Conservative Party Mikayel Hayrapetyan confirmed the news regarding new elections, but ascertained that it was not about Levon Ter-Petrosyan. "His political reputation is indisputable. If there is one large political figure in Armenia, it is Ter-Petrosyan."

As far as the proposal to hold elections is concerned, according to Mikayel Hayrapetyan, their party has suggested creating management bodies and "institutionalize" in order for the Congress to be more prepared for the anticipated elections. Hayrapetyan said this on behalf of his party. "This is the reality, at least according to us. We don't have any contacts with the Armenian National Movement or "Democratic Homeland". We only meet during sessions at the headquarters."

Chairman of the Armenian National Movement Ararat Zurabyan was hearing about the proposal for new elections for the first time.

"I am hearing about it for the first time," said Zurabyan, adding that the ANM has been and still is one of the pivotal forces of the Congress which completely shares the course led by the Armenian National Congress.
