Raising the level of security of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant's block has been and still is one of the main priorities of Armenia's government, announced today Serzh Sargsyan.

The Nuclear Power Security Council under the RA President held its 11th subsequent session at the Government Receptions Home today. The session was headed by the RA President.

"I am aware of the materials prepared by the organization controlling nuclear security and the atomic energy station's administration and believe much has been done. Of course, it would be preferable to finish all projects at all levels to ensure security. Unfortunately, that is impossible. We are truly interested in accomplishing all assignments as soon as possible," said Serzh Sargsyan.

The latter mentioned that although the safe exploitation of Armenia's Nuclear Power Plant is of primary importance, the Armenian government also attaches importance to dislocation of the energy block after exploitation.

Serzh Sargsyan said preparations have begun and the developed plan is also included in the plan of actions established by the European Union and the Republic of Armenia. According to the RA President, it is expected to implement projects by linking the process with the exploitation of the new energy block.

Serzh Sargsyan also touched upon pivotal issues discussed during the Global Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, particularly the issue of controlling radioactive wastes.

Sargsyan also talked about deepening Armenia's integration into regional energy markets and its participation in regional energy projects.

The general director of Armenia's Nuclear Power Plant gave a report on the atomic station's activities, which was followed by the speech by president of the state committee on normalizing nuclear security under the RA Government. The speeches were followed by a discussion on the issues presented.
