Ombudsman urges to punish officials
Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan has addressed letters to the RA Prosecutor General and Chief of Police.
The letters contain the violations recorded by the representatives of Human Rights Defender's Office during the visit to penitentiary institutions. During the visit they studied the register of medical examination and medical aid. Many inmates turned out to have been taken to cells with blue bruises, oedemata and scratches. Besides, they were taken to places of confinement after being kept in police stations for a day or two.
In his letter addressed to Chief of Police Alik Sargsyan, the Ombudsman requests to make the officials abusing their official duties accountable and to report the Ombudsman's Office on the results.
