"Zaruhy Postanjyan was dismissed deliberately "
"In 2007 our public voted for the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) as representatives of the country's leadership and not opposition," Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, ex head of the Armenian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), told A1+ speaking about the recent change in the delegation.
"Today Dashnaktsutyun has become an opposition and can present the opposition's viewpoint. Yet, it does not empower the National Assembly Speaker to dismiss a member of the opposition party from the delegation," added Mr. Hovhannisyan meaning Heritage member Zaruhy Postanjyan who had been removed from the Armenian delegation under a NA Speaker's decision.
"The authorities were displeased with Zaruhy Postanjyan's activity and they decided to replace her with Orinats Yerkir Party (OYK) member Artsrun Aghajanyan whose voice will have no weight in the Parliamentary Assembly," said Hovhannes Hovhannisyan.
"The Assembly will not oppose to the change since they largely respect sovereign countries and receive their delegations with due welcome. I think that the PACE will approve of the change without major objections. Anyway, the change will affect the quality of the Armenian delegation as Zaruhy Postanjyan presented the opinions, assessments and stance of the country's genuine opposition. Moreover, she laid the accent on the events of March 1, 2008. The issue will no more be raised from the PACE tribute. To tell the truth, I think that everything is done to silence the discussion of the events in PACE."
