Was the footage mounted?
In a footage shown at Kentron and Nork Marash District Court were two police officers beating two citizens early on the morning of March 2, 2009.
On the tape the officers Andranik Manukyan and Gegham Grigoryan were trying to take three citizens from Mashtots Avenue to a police department. The parties came to blow after two of the citizens showed resistance to the policemen.
However, Andranik Manukyan and Gegham Grigoryan announced that the footage had been mounted and argued that the tape did not show what lead to the officers' conduct; namely they said the two individuals had been cursing and throwing stones at them which made them "call the individuals to order."
Manukyan and Grigoryan are being charged with "overstepping their jurisdiction" in the course of duty (Article 309 of the RA Criminal Code).
The next court sitting is scheduled for December 16.
