"This is the first document envisaging people's right to self-determination. The issue must be tackled on the basis of these two principles," Republican MP Samvel Nikoyan, said in view of the five-party announcement on the Karabakh conflict recently adopted in Athens.
During a conversation with A1+, Samvel Nikoyan underlined that it was the first document signed at the level of foreign ministers of OSCE Minsk group co-chair countries, as well as Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The document refers to the conflict resolution and clarifies the principles outlining the conflict settlement. "These are the Madrid Principles and Helsinki provisions; in particular, the principles of territorial wholeness, non-appliance of force and people's right to self-determination," said the Republican MP.

"I assess it highly that OSCE 56 countries unanimously supported the document."
Samvel Nikolyan disagrees with Armenian National Congress's allegation that Armenia has accepted Azerbaijan's territorial wholeness.
"The whole world has expressed its stance on the Karabakh conflict but this is the first time Karabakh's people's right to self-determination has been accepted on a high level. I think this is good news for us."
