Received the Pentagon representative
Serzh Sargsyan today received U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Celeste Wallander.
Welcoming the guest, Sargsyan said: "Armenia and America have friendly relations and we are interested in further deepening of those relations. Armenia highly appreciates the U.S. government's support to Armenia since independence and America's efforts aimed at establishing peace and stability in our region and solving issues facing the region."
The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense said that the aim of her visit is to better understand the priorities of Armenia in the sphere of defense. Mentioning that the U.S. highly appreciates Armenia's participation in various peace-keeping missions, Wallander said that she visited the peace-keeping brigade of the RA Armed Forces and was impressed by the Armenian soldiers' capabilities.
President Sargsyan attached importance to Armenia's participation in the peace-keeping efforts and said that Armenia is obliged and has the capacity to make a contribution to the strengthening of international security.
The head of state and the U.S. official evaluated the bilateral cooperation and implemented projects as effective. President Sargsyan said that during his years as Minister of Defense, he has participated in the formation of the cooperation and believes that the Ministry has great potential for development and broadening.
The interlocutors also expressed views on issues and developments in the region.
