The "Unison" non-governmental organization held today an open-air demonstration in Yerevan. Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The groups of young disabled and volunteers raised awareness about the issues concerning persons with disabilities by holding signs and passing out flyers near the "Yeritasardakan" metro, the "Citadel" business center, the Mashtots-Tumanyan intersection and near the "Ararat" cinema.

"People with disabilities will completely feel part of society when there will be conditions for moving freely, participating in elections, attending cultural events, as well as studying and working," executive director of the "Unison" non-governmental organization Armen Alaverdyan told "A1+" today.

According to Armen Alaverdyan, people's attitude has changed to a certain extent. People now realize that the disabled are regular people.

However, he did separate some issues. According to him, there still aren't conditions for disabled people to be able to study or visit cultural homes. The majority of buildings and public places are not accommodated for disabled people on wheelchairs and very few manage to find jobs.

First-degree disabled Mariam Hayrapetyan also separated the issue of employment. Mariam said that after graduating from school, she didn't have the opportunity to continue her studies and nobody accepts her. She simply studies foreign languages at home.
