Mnatsakanyan appointed Minister

Serzh Sargsyan issued a decree on removing Gevorg Petrosyan from the office of RA Minister of Labor and Social Issues and another decree on appointing Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan as the new Minister of Labor and Social Issues.

Biography

Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Yerevan State Medical Institute in 1972. In 1984, he graduated from the leadership school of the USSR Ministry of Interior Affairs. In 1972-1975 he worked as a surgeon at the Sevan regional hospital, a forensic medicine expert in Aparan-Aragats in 1975-1977, head of the Interior Affairs Ministry hospital in 1976, administrative director at the International Reanimation Center of the Red Cross in 1994, director general in 1995 and in 2001, he was elected chairman of the Armenian Red Cross Company.

On May 12, 2007 he was elected deputy of the National Assembly's "Prosperous Armenia" party under proportionate order.. He has been chairman of the standing committee on human rights defense and public issues of the National Assembly since December 2007.

Mkhitaryan is a candidate of medical sciences, professor emeritus at the Academy of the European University in Moscow, professor emeritus of the European University, full-fledged member of the Medical-Technical Academy of the Russian Federation, member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Russian Federation, chairman of the interstate governmental committee on the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. He is married and has two children.
