Unprecedented development
After the RA President's short state visit to Hungary, RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan left for a short official visit to Switzerland.
According to information from the press service of the Foreign Ministry, upon arriving in Bern, Edward Nalbandyan met with head of the Federal Department of International Relations of Switzerland, Mishlin Kalmi-Rey.
The issues on the agenda of the meeting were a number of issues relating to bilateral cooperation in different spheres, as well as regional and international issues.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the unprecedented development of bilateral relations in the past year with the numerous meetings of the presidents and talks by the foreign ministers, as well as Switzerland's intermediation in the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations.
The development of relations was marked by the appointment of Charles Aznavour as the RA Ambassador, as well as the establishment of a Swiss diplomatic representation in Armenia.
Praising the dynamics of development of Swiss-Armenian relations, Edward Nalbandyan and Mishlin Kalmi-Rey attached importance to the high-profile mutual visits and the need for broadening the legal-contractual sphere as a guarantee for further strengthening of multifaceted cooperation.
The ministers attached importance to the productive cooperation between both foreign ministries and reached an agreement to hold frequent consultations between the ministries. They also discussed the possibility of broadening the cooperation within international organizations. In the context of Switzerland's upcoming presidency in the Council of Europe, the ministers exchanged views on the issues on the agenda.
The interlocutors agreed to take steps for promoting trade relations and attached importance to the initiatives taken by the circles of businessmen in that sphere.
Touching upon the process of normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations and Switzerland's intermediation, Edward Nalbandyan expressed gratitude for Switzerland's efforts and, according to Nalbandyan, Switzerland has taken on the mission that requires willingness and discretion, imagination, precaution and patience and the intermediary country fulfilled its mission with honor.
Edward Nalbandyan and Mishlin Kalmi-Rey also touched upon the issues facing the South Caucasus and the developments in the region.
Within the framework of his visit, Edward Nalbandyan and Mishlin Kalmi-Rey signed the "Treaty on regular air communication between the government of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Council of Switzerland" and the "Treaty on lifting the demand for entrance visas for people with diplomatic passports between the government of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Council of Switzerland".
After the signing, the ministers gave a joint press conference. On November 11, the Armenian Foreign Minister returned to Yerevan.
