The “most popular” names
Narek and Milena were the most modern and most popular Armenian names last year. In 2008, Narek was the name of 1,012 newborn boys, while Milena was the name for 817 girls, according to the report by the RA National Statistical Service entitled "Armenian men and women-2009".
David and Ellen come in second place, while Ani is in third and Hayk is in fourth.
Anahit, Mariam, Anna and Mane are still among the "popular" names, but foreign names like Angelina, Monica and others are more popular.
As far as boys' names are concerned, the first ten names are of Armenian origin and in general, there are very few boys with foreign names like Alex (188), Allen (284) and Alexander (114).
Let us also mention that according to statistics in 2008, the average age for marriage in Armenia is increasing. Male citizens of Yerevan get married at 28.8 years old, while the women get married at 25.1 years of age. Men living in the villages get married at 27.7 years old, while women get married at 23.3 years of age. In 1990, women's average age for marriage was 22.8 and it was 25.8 for men.
