Azerbaijan handed chairmanship to Bulgaria

The 21st sitting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation was held in Baku today.

Participating in the sitting chaired by Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammedyarov were delegations of the 12 member countries. The Armenian delegation was headed by RA Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Kirakosyan.

The council discussed and approved a number of important resolutions on improvement of effectiveness of the BSEC's activities, as well as the main directions for cooperation between the BSEC and international organizations within the framework of the BSEC.

In his speech, Arman Kirakosyan touched upon the perspectives of multifaceted cooperation within the framework of the BSEC, mentioning the achievements in different spheres. He attached importance to multifaceted economic cooperation without any preconditions as the guarantee for resolution to issues in the region. In that context, he recalled the recently signed Turkey-Armenia Protocols on the establishment and development of Turkish-Armenian relations as the best expression of that approach.

Touching upon the Turkey-Armenia Protocols was Secretary General of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization Leonidas Chrisanthopoulos who mentioned the importance of those documents for the deepening and development of cooperation in the region and within the framework of the BSEC.

At the end of the sitting Azerbaijan handed the chairmanship of the BSEC to Bulgaria.
