Chairman of Senate in Yerevan
On October 1 Chairman of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan met with Chairman of the Senate of Belgium Arman de Deker who is on an offiical visit to Armenia.
Welcoming the guest, Abrahamyan expressed confidence that the visit of the Belgian Senate Chairman will contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation. He expressed his content with the effectiveness of bilateral relations and emphasized that they can be deepened, especially in the spheres of trade and inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to turn the contacts between deputies of Armenia and Belgium more frequent and increase political dialogue.
Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia thanked his Belgian counterpart for the Higher Chamber of the Belgian parliament's adoption of the resolution on recognizing the Armenian Genocide on March 16, 1998.
During the meeting the sides also discussed regional and international issues. Upon the request of the Belgian Senate Chairman, Abrahamyan presented Armenia's positions on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and relations with neighboring countries. They also touched upon the global financial-economic crisis and its impact on the economies of both countries, as reported by the Department of Public Relations of the National Assembly.
