Chairman of the RA National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan had meetings with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmud Ahmadinejad, Chairman of the National Assembly of Iraq Ayad al-Samara, visited national institutions of Iranian-Armenians and had meetings with representatives of the Armenian community within the framework of his official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Before his meeting with the Iranian president, the RA National Assembly delegation visited the Iranian parliament where chairmen of the Armenian and Iranian parliaments Hovik Abrahamyan and Ali Larijani signed a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding.

On September 30 the Chairman of the National Assembly met with Chairman of the National Assembly of Iraq Ayad al-Samara who was also in Tehran on a visit. Mr. Abrahamyan touched upon the traditional warm relations between the Iraqi and Armenian nations and proposed to reaffirm and strengthen relations that were interrupted due to the crisis in Iraq in 2003. The chairman of the Iraqi parliament accepted the proposal and praised the role of the Iraqi-Armenian community in the life of the country, mentioning that that role may contribute to the bilateral relations.

On the morning of September 30 the delegation headed by Chairman of the RA National Assembly visited the shrine of founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini. On the same day Abrahamyan paid a visit to the St. Sargis Church of the Armenian Diocese of Tehran where he laid a wreath in front of the Armenian Genocide memorial and met with representatives of the Iranian-Armenian community.

Touching upon the normalization of Turkish-Armenian relations, Mr. Abrahamyan said: "We understand the concerns of our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora. I assure you that the Armenian authorities will never let the normalization of relations cease the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. It is also unacceptable to tie the relations with the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Neither the Armenian Genocide or the free self-determination of the people of Artsakh are matters of discussion."

On September 30 a reception was held at the "Ararat" sport-cultural complex on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of Armenia's declaration of independence with the participation of the RA National Assembly delegation. RA National Assembly Chairman Hovik Abrahamyan made a speech during the rececption.

On October 1 the delegation headed by the Chairman of the RA National Assembly left Tehran for Yerevan.
