Water issue
Residents of Akner must take water from the main ditch to have water at home.
Last year, the Alaverdi municipality granted 12 million drams from the state budget to solve the issue of drinking water for Akner. The Alaverdi mayor says that it was foreseen to make the water accessible to the village, but that residents had to pay for that.
In many cases, the tubes are going to pass through the gardens of residents and that has sparked debates between villagers. Residents living in the lower district of the village are the ones who especially face this issue. Besides the conflicts between neighbors, the villagers must also solve financial issues. Sandro Hakobyan from Akner says that they have to pay a huge amount of money for water because their homes are nearly 300-400 meters away from the main water pipeline.
The inner water network is currently going through repair in Akner and 13 people are provided with temporary work with 2,400 drams daily salary.
