Sentenced to three years in prison
Two people were sentenced to three years in prison each for violations registered at the 8/5 precinct of Malatia-Sebastia district during the elections for Yerevan's Council of Elders.
The first instance court of the Malatia-Sebastia district sped up their trial today after the petition by member of the electoral commission Norik Yeghiazaryan and voter Armen Ohanyan's advocate Narine Mkrtchyan. The two are charged with Article 150 of the RA Criminal Code, that is, electoral fraud.
According to the charge brought up by prosecutor Koryun Piloyan, they had brought out 16 ballots from the polling stations on May 31, checked them, separated the ballots for the Republican Party, copied them and got rid of the remaining ballots. According to the prosecutor, Norik Yeghiazaryan and Armen Ohanyan falsified the results of the elections and committed a very dangerous act. In addition, they got into a debate with a journalist and an observer. Koryun Piloyan said that the charge is founded and they must serve three years in prison.
In her speech, advocate Narine Mkrtchyan said that her clients repent what they have done and consider themselves guilty. The culprits also admitted that they were guilty and asked the court to ease the penalty. What the court did not determine was who had ordered the violation.
