Refugee issues discussed at President's residence
On May 6, 2009, Serzh Sargsyan received Mr. John Greenway, the Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population, MP of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
John Greenway said he had come to Armenia to get acquainted with the issues of protection of refugee rights, since he was going to present a report to the corresponding PACE Commission on the defense of displaced persons in Europe.
Serzh Sargsyan noted that the Armenian authorities constantly attach importance to the solution of problems of the vulnerable layers of population in cooperation with specialized structures like the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Organization for Migration, etc.
Serzh Sargsyan said the authorities were doing their best for the refugees to get fully integrated into the public life of the country, never trying to politicize their problems. The President added that Armenia possessed restricted resources for solving the problems of the refugees and our anticipated the assistance of international organizations.
